><h4>La cataracte<\/h4>\n<p>En-dehors des pays d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s, les cataractes demeurent la principale cause de d\u00e9ficience visuelle \u00e9vitable, avec une incidence de 50% en Afrique sub-saharienne. La cataracte est une opacification du cristallin de l\u2019oeil qui emp\u00eache le passage de la lumi\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Bien que la plupart des cas de cataractes soient li\u00e9s au processus de vieillissement, des enfants peuvent parfois na\u00eetre avec cette affection, ou bien des cataractes peuvent se d\u00e9velopper \u00e0 la suite de blessures de l\u2019\u0153il, d\u2019une inflammation ou bien encore r\u00e9sulter de maladies oculaires. L\u2019op\u00e9ration de la cataracte est l\u2019un des traitements les plus rentables qui peuvent \u00eatre offerts dans les pays en d\u00e9veloppement.<\/p>\n<h4>Statistiques (Source: OMS)<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>39 millions d\u2019enfants sont aveugles dans le monde. La majorit\u00e9 des aveugles \u2013 environ 90% \u2013 vivent dans des pays pauvres o\u00f9 il n\u2019y a pas d\u2019acc\u00e8s aux soins oculaires.<\/li>\n<li>Environ 80% des d\u00e9ficiences visuelles pourraient en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral \u00eatre \u00e9vit\u00e9es.<\/li>\n<li>La correction des erreurs de r\u00e9fraction pourrait donner une vision normale \u00e0 plus de 12 millions
